Information Technology Services:
Wireless Network
Information Technology Services (ITS) recognizes the need to
offer students, faculty, and staff
the flexibility to access information that a wireless
infrastructure would grant, as well as maintaining
competitiveness in this area of technology among our peer
institutions.
Using new enterprise-grade appliances, we are both enhancing
existing wireless connectivity as well as expanding this
network across campus.
The Simon's Rock Wireless Network is:
- An extension of the wired network.
- Now a secure network; you must authenticate to this
network using the IEEE 802.1X EAP-TTLS protocol
first, in order
to gain full access to services (i.e. Internet). Upon
connecting to and authenticating to the secured portion of
the wireless network, over-the-air traffic will be encrypted
between
your device and the remaining wired network.
- A short-range network. You must be within a defined
area where the radio signal is available; if you move out
of this area, the signal will degrade and become too
weak and you will be disconnected.
- A shared medium that offers great flexibility, but
not greater speeds than wired networks.
- Compatible with IEEE 802.11b/g devices
which support IEEE 802.1X (and EAP-TTLS) in all locations.
